Journal Info
ABOUT THE JOURNALS The journals are small, leather bound books with an infinite number of pages inside that were developed by the Department of Mysteries as an alternative to using owls to send memos between the different Ministry departments. When the Ministry decided to use paper aeroplanes instead, the journals were offered to the public and can now be purchased at any book or stationary shop. A basic journal sells for 10 sickles (about $20 USD in current dollars) although you can pay more for fancier versions, which just buys you a higher quality leather binding, heavier parchment or a decorative cover. The journals have been available commercially for over a year so while your character might have just bought one, they are not brand new inventions. The journals are only connected to the network once they are purchased and only entries from the point of purchase onwards will be visible on the pages. But don't assume that only active players can read your entries - you never know who might have a journal stashed in between their sofa cushions. Entries and comments appear on the page with the author's name at the top and in their handwriting. Text that is stricken You can leave anonymous comments on an entry, but please use The author of an entry can edit what they wrote after it has been posted to the network, to add additional comments or strike out text, but please include an OOC note on your post letting everyone know that the journal entry was edited and when. (i.e. "Entry was stricken out after this comment" with a link to the comment in question or "[Warded to James (added later)]") Links to other journal entries, logs or outside website can be used in your journal entry, but these are for OOC reference only. A character can't click a link in a physical journal. |
ABOUT WARDS Wards are specific to the individual, not the journal and can only be cast by a character with a wand. If a Death Eater captures the journal of an Order member they will not be able to read Order wards. If your character wants to share the contents of a warded conversation with another character, they have to either transcribe it or read it to them. Wards on posts and comments need to be specific. You can only ward to or against a group if your character knows all of the members of that group. An Order member can ward to other Order members but cannot ward against purists since some people keep their views closer to their chest than others. If a group is not clearly defined in game, please list out it's members by name in your ward. Please do not just ward to "friends." Also note that someone included in a ward can see who else is included as well. Once a post or a comment has been made, it is not possible to edit the wards. You can add new wards to a post or write comments under more restrictive wards, but you can't add or remove people from an already posted ward. It just gets too complicated once people have started commenting under that ward. Multiple wards are allowed in a single post or comment. Wards are not breakable - the wards are cast on the author's journal itself and you aren't included in the wards, you won't know that it exists. There's no need to ward something "strongly private" and please do not say a ward is "Private to so and so, but viewable by so and so." Simple and straightforward is the way to go. Also, if you put your wards behind an lj-cut, please be sure to include who it is warded to in the text of your entry itself for the sake of clarity. |
